Overview
What to know before applying for an Iraq visa
This page is the main Iraq visa information hub on Iraq Visa Assist. It explains, in plain language, what shapes an application and where an assistance service ends and official authority begins.
Visa conditions can differ from one traveller to another. What applies to you depends on your nationality, the passport you hold, the visa category available for your trip, your intended length of stay, the documentation you provide, and the review carried out by the relevant Iraqi authorities. The information below is general guidance to help you understand the process and prepare a correct application; it may change.
Iraq Visa Assist is an independent third-party application assistance service. We help you prepare, review and submit an application, but visa decisions are made by the relevant Iraqi authorities.
Who needs a visa
Who needs a visa for Iraq?
Foreign travellers generally need the appropriate authorisation arranged in advance to enter Iraq. The application route available to you can depend on your nationality and passport type.
Some nationalities can use the online application route, submitting their request electronically without attending in person. Other applicants may need a different authorised application channel. Eligibility is set by the applicable Iraqi rules and can change, so it should be confirmed for your specific nationality before you apply.
Avoid assuming eligibility based on a friend’s experience or a general list. Use the nationality selector on this page, or the country lists on our Processing Time page, to see the route and processing category associated with your passport.

Check EligibilityEligibility by nationality
Check Iraq visa information for your nationality
Visa eligibility, processing period and application conditions can vary according to passport nationality. Search for your country below to see whether the online route is available and which processing category applies.
Eligibility for the online route follows your passport nationality — not your country of residence. Enter or select the nationality printed on the passport you will travel on to see your group, available visa options, total price, processing time, validity for entry, permitted stay and insurance.
Group A
6 to 72 hours
Group A nationalities may choose between the 30-Day and 60-Day visa options, with a typical processing window of 6 to 72 hours.
Group B
8 to 18 business days
Group B nationalities are processed under a separate category with a typical window of 8 to 18 business days. A USD 50 cash arrival fee may also apply.
This selector uses the same nationality data shown on our Processing Time page. It indicates the route and processing category associated with a nationality; it does not confirm that a visa will be issued. Final eligibility and decisions are determined by the relevant Iraqi authorities.
Requirements
Documents and information you may need
Requirements can vary by nationality and visa category. In most cases, applicants should prepare the following before starting an application.
A valid passport
A passport that remains valid for your intended travel and stay.
At least 6 months validity
Passport validity of at least 6 months is generally expected.
Clear passport copy
A sharp, complete image of the passport information page.
Recent personal photograph
A recent digital photo in even lighting with a plain background.
Correct personal information
Names, dates and spelling matching the passport exactly.
Travel information
Purpose of visit and intended arrival date, when requested.
Supporting documents
Any additional documents requested during review.
Processing time
Iraq visa processing time
Processing depends primarily on nationality category, and may also be affected by document quality, public holidays, application volume or additional review.
Group A — Faster route
Estimated processing window: 6 to 72 hours
Most Group A applications are processed within a 6 to 72 hour timeframe. This is an estimate, not a guarantee, and assumes a complete application with clear documents.
Group A applicants may choose between the 30-Day and 60-Day visa options where available.
Group B — Longer route
Estimated processing period: 8 to 18 business days
Group B applications generally require between 8 and 18 business days for processing. The group is determined by nationality, not by the applicant’s choice.
Group B applicants are processed under a separate category and may also need to pay a USD 50 cash arrival fee for the visa sticker where applicable.
Processing periods are estimates and may vary. Submit your application sufficiently before planned travel, and avoid booking non-refundable travel on the assumption a visa will be issued by a specific date.

Important entry information
A few points to check before you travel, so the document you receive works smoothly on arrival.
- The visa is generally single entry — confirm the entry conditions printed on the document you receive.
- The permitted stay depends on the approved visa type and the conditions stated on the issued visa.
- Passport details must match the issued authorisation; travel on the passport used for the application.
- Carry your passport and visa documentation when travelling, printed or accessible on your phone.
- Final admission remains subject to immigration authorities at the port of entry.
Holding visa documentation does not by itself create a right of entry. Border officials apply the entry requirements in force at the time of arrival and make the final admission decision.
